App

Q: How to download the latest version?

A: Simply go to your app store and download the Vaultek App.

 

Q: What are the app requirements?

A: Android 4.4 or above; and iOS 7.0 or above.

 

Q: Does the app work with more than one safe?

A: Absolutely, you may program multiple safes for quick and easy multiple safe management.

 

Q: What type of security does the app have?

A: There is a pattern lock that requires a custom pattern sequence to access the app.

 

Q: With the Wireless access app, can you open the unit if the unit is home and you are away from home or do you need to be near the unit?

A: You need to be within Wireless access range to access the safe. If you left the house you will not be able to open the safe. However, we understand some people want access to their safe even from afar.

 

Q: What prevents someone from downloading the app and accessing my safe?

A: The master code is required to pair a safe with the phone.

 

Q: What prevents someone from grabbing my phone and accessing my safe?

A: The master code is required to pair a safe with the phone.

 

Q: Is there a way to change the names of the units on the app?

A: Yes, you can name each safe. Under the “More” menu located on the bottom of the app you will be able to name each safe.

 

Q: Can more than 1 cell phone with the Vaultek app connect to 1 safe?

A: It is possible to set up more than one phone on your safe.  The current set up is designed to allow one device at a time to connect and manage the safe.  Once the safe is connected to one phone, it’s basically invisible to any other devices.  However, as long as the safe is not connected to anyone’s phone, you can set up another device.

 

Q: Can you name each fingerprint?

A: Yes, you can name each fingerprint to easily manage and view in the history log.

Battery

Q: When I first install the battery should I charge it a 100%?

1. After installing the battery, use the charging kit provided to charge the unit 100%.

 

Q: How long does the battery last?

A: The battery under normal usage on the VT20i/VT20/VT10i will last 4 months on one single charge. The battery under normal usage on the Pro VT Series will last 1-2 months on one single charge.

 

Q: Can I keep the safe plugged at all times?

A: Leaving your safe plugged in continually will not harm the safe or battery. However, to preserve the battery life span for portability we suggest that you unplug occasionally to allow the battery to cycle down.

 

Q: What type of battery does my Vaultek safe use?

A: Use a 3.7V 18650 rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a flat top. A minimum 2000 mAh capacity is required, however 2200 mAh or higher can be used to increase operation time. This type battery is commonly available and in the event you do not seek Vaultek™ for a replacement we recommend a brand name like Panasonic.

 

Q: Can I use a battery of more than 2000mAh?

A: Yes, a minimum 2000 mAh capacity is required, however 2200 mAh or higher can be used to increase operation time.

 

Q: What happens to the fingerprints that are stored in my Vaultek™ safe when the battery dies?

A: The safe retains all fingerprints in the event of battery failure. Once the power is restored by inserting the AC adapter cable, the unit will function as it did before the power loss.

 

Charging

Q: Can the USB charging cable be left in all the time?

A: For your convenience and peace of mind, you can keep the safe plugged into a power source at all times as long as the battery is present.

Fingerprint Scanner

Q: How many fingerprints does the safe allow?

A: The safe will hold up to 20 unique fingerprints with 2 administrative IDs.

 

Q: How fast is the fingerprint sensor? Is it as fast as the latest iPhone or Google Pixel?

A: The scanners on our products are quick requiring no wake-up time just place your finger and the safe opens right away, equivalent to what you see on an iPhone –  scan rate is approximately .4 seconds. More technically the imaging speed of the scanner is 40 frames per second scanning at 176 x 176 Pixels @ 508 DPI.

 

Q: How do I improve fingerprint success rate?

A: First, delete the prints you have programmed in so far, and try again with the tips below:

Delete Tip! VT20i/VT10i Press and hold keys ‘3’ and ‘5’ at same time until all keys light up red (takes about 3 seconds).  Let go of keys ‘3’ and ‘5’ and enter the master pin code.  You’ve cleared the prints and ready to start fresh!

Delete Tip! Pro VTi Press and hold the ‘3’ key then “PROGRAM” button then enter your master code.  You’ve cleared the prints and ready to start fresh!

1. Be sure your finger is flat against the scanner (parallel to safe) and place the cuticle of the finger over the center of the scanner (this allows the scanner to read where most of the fingerprint details are located). Some moisture helps too, dry skin makes your fingerprint hard to read.

2. Biometric technology is dependent on our anatomical information, and in some cases different fingers may program better than others.  For example, your index finger may not register very well, but your thumb may contain higher detail levels and have a much higher success rate.  We suggest to try different fingers including your thumb and see if you have better results.

3. To increase success rate register the same finger multiple times. Note, that adding more than two fingerprints requires authorization from the two administrative prints.

4. During the 5 scan programming process for each finger, slightly repositioning your finger after each scan will store more information and increase your success rate.

Q: If I cut my finger, does the fingerprint heal the same as before and will it open my safe?

A: Usually yes, although if the cut is significant or requires stitches scar tissue may form as a result causing a change in your fingerprint. That is why we recommend enrolling additional user fingerprints and also fingerprints from your other hand.

 

Q: Will my Vaultek™ safe scan my finger correctly when my finger/fingerprint is wrinkled after bathing or swimming?

A: The Vaultek™ safe has been designed to be very sensitive when authenticating and matching fingerprints. The until will open when your fingerprint has increased moisture from an average shower or swim. However, extreme water retention due to extended time in the water will cause aspects of your fingerprint to change for a short period. If this happens, fingerprint access to your safe may be denied until your fingerprint returns to its normal condition. The keypad and app will not be affected and will still function normally to open the safe.

 

Q: Will my Vaultek™ safe work out?

A: Yes, the fingerprint sensor in the safe is not affected by sunlight.

 

Master Code

Q: I forgot my master code. How do I change the master code?

VT20i/VT10i A: Follow the steps below:

1. Press and hold the “PROGRAM” button together for 3 seconds until the keypad lights up RED and let go.

2. Enter your NEW master code.

3. Press and hold the “PROGRAM” button again for 3 seconds until the keypad lights up RED and let go.

4. Ener your NEW master code a second time.

5. Press and hold the “PROGRAM” button a third time for 3 seconds until the safe beeps and let go.

If you make a mistake and the new code will not work, simply start over.

ProVTi A: Follow the steps below:

1. Press and hold the ‘1’ key then the “PROGRAM” button together for 3 seconds until all status bar LEDs turn RED and let go.

2. Enter your NEW master code.

3. Press and hold the ‘1’ key then the “PROGRAM” button again for 3 seconds until all status bar LEDs turn RED and let go.

4. Ener your NEW master code a second time.

5. Press and hold the ‘1’ key then the “PROGRAM” button a third time for 3 seconds until the safe beeps and all status bar LEDs turn GREEN and let go.

If you make a mistake and the new code will not work, simply start over.

Mounting

Q: Can these be mounted down to a table, nightstand, or to the trunk of a car?

A: Yes, your Vaultek™ safe can be secured a few different ways. Included is a security cable to attach your safe to larger stationary objects. There are also mounting screws included to mount the safe to a flat surface using the pre-drilled holes on the bottom. The Pro Series has an optional mounting plate to secure your safe in place, with the added flexibility of being able to remove the safe when needed.

 

Q: Can you mount the safe on its side?

A: Yes, you can mount the safe on its side. When mounting we recommend you mount the safe so the door flips to the side or flips down. We’ve seen this work with great success with our customers.

 

Q: What is the Pro Series mounting plate?

A: The Vaultek mounting plate allows you to securely rack your Pro Series safe in place, with the added flexibility of being able to remove the safe when needed. A: You have two options either free ground shipping or two day expedited shipping for $25.00.

 

Sound

Q: Does it have a silent option?

A: Yes, all our safes have the ability to toggle the sound ON/OFF.

 

TSA

Q: Can I travel with my Vaultek™ safe through US Customs or TSA Security at the airport?

A: Yes, there are no restrictions on carrying this type of item. If transporting firearms make sure to check the safe or include with your checked baggage. Please be aware that you may be asked to open your safe. Rather than pass it through x-ray, and we recommend that an enrolled user be present during the transport of this item in case such a request is made by a government authority.

 

Warranty

Q: What type of warranty do you offer?

A: Vaultek is 100% committed to serving our customers with the best product quality and customer service. We offer a 30 day return policy and guarantee a 3 year limited warranty for all our safes. If it is determined that your safe has a defect we will at our discretion repair or replace it free of charge. This warranty does not cover abuse, misuse, use in any manner for which it is not designed, neglect, modification, damage inadvertently caused by the user, accidents, and/or tampering.
