Battery Installation

Your safe is powered by a 3.7V 18650 rechargeable lithium-ion flat top battery. A minimum 2000 mAh capacity is required, however 2200 mAh or higher can reused to increase operation time.

1) To get started, insert one of your backup keys into the keyhole at the front of the safe. Push key in and rotate the key 90 degrees clockwise to open the safe.

2) Remove the interior padding. Locate the battery compartment door on the inside of the safe directly behind the ‘1’ key on the keypad.

3) Remove the battery cover by pressing down on the tab near the top of the cover.Insert the 18650 rechargeable lithium-ion battery (included in accessory box) into the battery compartment. Note that your Vaultek safe automatically detects the polarity of the battery and can be installed in either direction.

TIP! Before inserting the battery make sure to place the pull string over the battery before closing the door for easy removal.

4) When the battery is inserted you will hear a short welcome tone and the keypad will light up. Once you hear the tone and see the keypad light up, replace the battery cover.

TIP! Leaving your safe plugged in continually will not harm the safe or battery. However, to preserve battery life we suggest that you unplug occasionally to allow the battery to cycle down.

Important! Your Vaultek safe will atomically lock when you fully close the lid.

TIP! Register your safe online. This is important in the event you lose your keys.

Charging Safe

1) To recharge the safe, plug the micro-USB into the micro-USB receiving jack located on the right side of the safe and connect to a standard USB port or wall outlet using the AC power adapter. Approximate recharge time is 2.5 hours.

2) The LED next to the receiving jack on the side of the safe will glow RED indicating charging and GREEN indicating charged.

After installing the battery, use the charging kit provided to charge the unit 100%.

Programming Master Code

Before programming lets cover a few code requirements.

  • Your code can be a minimum of 4 digits, or a as long as 8 digits.
  • Two keys can not be pressed at the same time.
  • Programming a new code will overwrite your previous code.

1) Open the safe. With the safe open, press and hold the “PROGRAM” button until all keys turn RED and let go.

2) Enter your NEW master code.

3) IMMEDIATELY Press and hold the “PROGRAM” button a second time until all keys turn RED and let go.

4) Enter your NEW master code a second time.

5) IMMEDIATELY Press and hold the “PROGRAM” button together a third time until the safe beeps and all keys turn GREEN and let go. This tone confirms that the code has been reset.

This completes the programming of a new master code.

Troubleshooting! If the keys time out during programming you will need to start over with step 1.

Repeat as needed to change master code.

Fingerprints (Only VS20i)

Your safe can store up to 20 unique fingerprints. The 1st and 2nd fingerprints will be recognized as administrative fingerprints and will be used to authorize additional users.

STEP 1 : Programming Admin Print 1 of 2

STEP 2 : Programming Additional Prints 3 to 20

Before programming lets cover a few tips.

Fingerprint TIPS!

Vaultek Safe | Support for VS20i VS20

1) Place the core of the fingerprint flat over the center of the scanner. This allows the scanner to read where most of the fingerprint detail is located.

2) Rotate your finger slightly between registration scans to store print variations for increased accuracy.

3) Biometric technology is dependent on our anatomical information, and in some cases different fingers may program better than others. For example, your index finger may not register very well, but your thumb may contain higher detail levels and have a much higher success rate. We suggest to try different fingers including your thumb and see if you have better results.

4) To increase success rate register the same finger multiple times. Note, that adding more than two fingerprints requires authorization from the two administrative prints.

Troubleshooting! If you are having difficulty with your print, program the same fingerprint 4 or 5 times. You have 20 slots available for programming and you can also try your thumb as it has more surface area to read.

Troubleshooting! If you are experiencing a low success rate. Delete the fingerprints on safe and start over.

Having issues? Please email our support team at support@vaulteksafe.com. They would be more than happy to help you out!

Programming Admin Fingerprints

Your safe can store up to 20 unique fingerprints. The 1st and 2nd fingerprints will be recognized as administrative fingerprints and will be used to authorize additional users 3 to 20. Let’s enroll the first two admin prints in the safe. Before programming lets cover a few tips.

Programming Fingerprints on Nano Key 2.0 Biometric

Before programming the fingerprints to Nano Key 2.0 Biometric lets cover a few tips.

Tip! The first print is the admin print which is used to authorize the programming of additional prints.

Tip! When programming you will scan your fingerprint 3 times.

Fingerprint TIPS!

STEP 1 : Programming the Admin Print

The first programmed fingerprint is considered the Admin print. This print is necessary to authorize adding additional users or to authorize the deletion of all prints.

1) Quickly press the top PROGRAM button on Nano Key 2.0 Biometric. The LED ring will turn solid RED indicating you can place your fingerprint on the scanner for the first of 3 registration scans.

2) Place your finger on the scanner, when you hear a confirmation beep and the LED ring flashes GREEN, lift your finger and repeat two more scans to complete the programming of the first user.

STEP 2 : Programming Additional Prints

After the Admin print has been locked in, you can add additional users or fingerprints, up to 20 unique users in total.

1) Quickly press the PROGRAM button. The LED ring will turn solid YELLOW requesting you to place the Admin print on the scanner to authorize the request to add a new user.

2) Scan the admin print. When successful, you will hear a confirmation beep and the LED ring will flash GREEN then back to RED indicating you can proceed with the first of (3) registration scans of the additional print.

You are now ready to pair Nano Key 2.0 Biometric to your safe.
