ViSN safes have an optional Essential Mode that can be programmed without the ViSN app. Essential Mode does not use Wi-Fi and will not send live alerts.

Biometric safe with slide-out design praised for premium build quality and slim profile. Customers highlighted reliable fingerprint access and quick-access features. However, significant concerns about power requirements (must stay plugged in), short battery life (3 months vs claimed 9-12), size limitations for full-size pistols with optics, and inconsistent biometric performance.
It states the overall length of a gun to fit would be 8.875 inches. In actuality there is only 8 1/4 inches of room.
My full size cz-75 will not fit.
Nowhere does the description say this safe has to be plugged in to power to fully function. Even in "essential mode" they say the batteries will only last 3 months if it is not plugged in. The older versions of this safe had internal rechargeable batteries that lasted a long time, and now this one can only go 3 months on regular batteries... Quite the downgrade. Unfortunate that it is not feasible to use in my situation since I do not have a power outlet where I need this safe. I guess it is partially on me for not reading the negative reviews about this same issue before purchasing...
Also, if you set up master code and finger prints, they do not work once you place into essential mode. You then have to go through a totally different process to add a new code and fingerprints. I set it up, installed then set it to essential. I was fortunate to not need this in an emergency before I figured this out.
The fingerprint access doesn’t always work. I then need to use my coded access to open the safe. Really annoying.
On 06/18/2026 I posted about the extremely short battery life. I received a response from the company that claimed the alkaline batteries will last 9-12 months. Today, those fresh energizer brand batteries just died again. I have more complaints, but this specific issue brought me back to update the first review. Due to the location of the safe, I’m unable to place it on a continuous charge. My first safe that was the same price had a battery cycle closer to that 9-12 months. It sits in my overland truck and maybe gets a charge once a year. This safe has already died a few times and I bought it earlier this year.
I will say something positive. It’s the sleekest design. It’s, unfortunately, the only safe that fits the use case I’m looking for. The moment I can find something else, I will.
Claims it fits a full sized pistol, it does not. I have a compact with an optic, it doesn’t fit. I managed to force my pistol in there along with my spare mag and I almost had to disassemble the safe to extract my stuff. Then it having to be online 24-7 linked to an app, and it’s a pain to get out of that mode. If you loose power all your programming dies with it and you have to redo everything. This was a complicated waste of money, why anyone would put this in a truck is beyond me.
I have the colion noir collaboration safe and this safe listed above. For the exact same price this safe has NO INTERNAL BATTERY. Are you kidding me? It relies on 4 AAA batteries that die in 3 weeks with zero uses. This safe is a hidden bedroom safe that never opens due to other guns near by. I changed the batteries to fresh batteries on May 24th. The replacements are already dead. I just today, which is what is causing me to leave this review, realized it has no built in battery. That’s absolutely ridiculous for the price you pay. It’s the exact same price as the colion noir collaboration safe, that safe came with a nano key and had a built in battery. I don’t understand why you would even build a safe without one. I will be returning this safe. This is a scam version of the safe. Paying more for half the package.

This safe really won't fit a full size gun with an optic and light except maybe in some limited circumstances. I have 2 full size 1911 style guns with Holosun 507 Comp optics (a little larger than some other options), one with a light and the other without. One is a double stack and the other single stack. Neither comes close to fitting, which I was counting on. Also, some guns with a flared mag well won't fit due to width. I assume to accommodate lights and optics, there is no longer a separate slot for a separate magazine. My compact gun (Sig P365 Xmacro) fits fine with both light and optic. Also, be aware that to mount the plate to furniture, rather large holes need to be drilled (7/32, almost a quarter of an inch!, is in the instructions) and the included screws are about 1 1/2 inches long. I think that would interfere with the drawers sliding in and out of most nightstands in addition to the fact that not many pieces of furniture are built with sides that are that thick and solid. There is an option to mount the plate on the bottom, but again, it would take something pretty thick and solid (1 1/2 inches at least) to even stand a chance of being solid side to side.
The sliding part seems to work well and quickly. I have not yet set up the fingerprints, etc., as I hesitated for a couple of days before trying to mount the plate. So, I don't yet know how quickly the safe opens using biometric, keypad or Nano options. I bought a second plate so I could move the safe to a couple locations as I wanted, but will likely not do that now due to the above issues and because it is not very easy to do. As noted, the safe itself is heavy and you need to release a latch inside (manual) that requires holding it with one hand while lifting with the other. To get the safe back onto the plate also can require releasing the latch if you can't push pretty hard on the safe to get the
plate tabs to push in the release. It also requires being plugged in constantly and a relatively short cord is provided, although I'm sure longer cords would work (USB standard to USB C) if purchased separately. I didn't really care about any of the internet/connectivity features but wanted the NanoKey option and that's the only way to do it. Be aware that if the internet goes out, the NanoKey option to open the safe won't work.
If the NanoKey is faster and more sure than the other biometric safes I have (slight delays and occasional failures using fingerprints), I will still be satisfied overall, but decided to write this while thinking about it. FYI, there are no written instructions for the keypad or fingerprint options, only downloading and using the app. I'm sure it won't be hard to figure out, but definitely more steps and work than with my other safes to get it set up. Batteries are used as a backup to the plug-in power and there is a way to check the charge on the batteries, which I appreciate, but will also likely forget how to do that (in the written instructions provided but I already forgot after reading them), as there are several functions that require keypad combinations (i.e., pushing buttons 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 at the same time vs. just one number for others). Hope these details help.
The safe is as advertised, simple setup with a heavy duty feel and a silent opening mechanism. The Software is very easy to use and it will notify you immediately when someone is tampering or enters the wrong code.

This is the perfect safe for quick access to your duty or off-duty pistol Great for storage after work. The size is so compact that you can hide the safe anywhere in your house. This is my second Vaultek safe I have purchased and I am about to order a third. Excellently-made products. I am a customer for life.
Love the quality of the safe, however I haven't decided where to Mount it yet. It definitely needs to be mounted, the slide moves the safe a bit when it opens. Not a big deal just need to find the ideal place for it. Also fits the Canik TP9SFX as long as the mag isnt in the gun!

Even though my safe wasn't under warranty, they offered free service and parts on the simple stipulation that I pay for freight to send to them. Great quality safe
This is my 4th Vaultek lockbox (08/13/25) over the past 3 years. I seem to be working my way up to buying a rifle safe. I've done research between each purchase to ensure the product quality and customer service ratings haven't slipped like other manufacturers (aka. 'binning', "quality fade", "planned obsolescence", et.) I also compare products against competitors. Vaultek's service and quality has not just remained consistent but appears to continually improve. I've been very happy with each of the previous purchases. I'm looking forward to using this latest one. I have recommended them to relatives and friends. I'm not being sponsored, paid, et. to write this review. Just feel like we should also speak up about the good things we come across.
Sent me the wrong safe to being with but fixed the issue quickly. Still have the wrong safe for over a month due to fedex not picking it up.

The safe is just what I needed to secure my handguns. Well made and has great security features.
I find that the technology you have used to control access to the safe is excellent and easy to program. The external feel of the unit adds to its appeal. The back-up access clearly was well thought through. The only thing that I might suggest is that you consider a higher gauge steel. As is it is an excellent product.
Ordering and shipping were straight forward and quick. Set up was fairly easy - be sure to read and follow the instructions. So far the safe works as advertised. Would recommend if you need a quick access safe.
The fingerprint access stopped working after the initial login. Nothing that the company provided as a correction helped to fix the issue. I’m only able to access my gun via the security code or key.

Bought a VAULTEK DSI Black in December of 2023. The other day I smelled electrical burning coming from the back of it, I sent a email to VAULTEK and after a few verifications they sent me an email that they are sending me a new unit!! Now that is customer service!! They have all my business now !!
I have at least five safe products from them, and one of them had an issue; the part it needed is no longer in production, and I'm out of warranty. But they took care of me anyway with a refurbished from the newer line. Good service to loyal customers.
