However, setup can be challenging with complex app programming requiring multiple steps. The non-biometric version works "flawlessly every time" while biometric reliability varies. Very convenient way to open safe
Previously reviewed the safe before trying to program it and can't add to that. Programming the safe is horrible. I tried to do it using my phone since I needed to have the app on it anyway, but you need a separate email available to do that. Otherwise, every time you try to create an account you have to be sent an access code via email, but if you go away from the app to get the email, it makes you start over and the code you just got is no longer valid! Then, either my phone or the app kept timing out if there was no activity for 10-15 seconds, meaning I needed to log back in repeatedly. The app is set up as though each fingerprint is added at different times, not sequentially. So, you have to go through multiple screens and steps each time. Also, if the safe is left open (such as when trying to program multiple fingerprints at the same time!), an alarm goes off, audible on the safe, followed by a text notification, which became a significant annoyance. A major pain to finish, and I seriously doubt that all the connectivity will be of any use to me other than the NanoKey (which also doesn't work if the internet goes out).
The NanoKey does not include a battery (CR 2032) so be sure to have one available. Pretty easy to connect after all the fingerprint experience I had. I bought the basic (non-biometric) version and I am very glad I did. The good news is that it works flawlessly every time and is fast. The bad news is that the fingerprints do not. The fingerprints open the safe just as fast as the NanoKey when they work, but they don't always work. So, I don't really see an advantage to a biometric NanoKey if it has to be close to the safe (6 feet) and is no more reliable or fast than just using the scanner directly on the safe. Granted, the non-biometric version is not as secure, but I plan to remove it from the holder and put it elsewhere anytime I have guests in the house and hope no one looks for it otherwise.
I did find that with my compact gun (with light and optic) there is still room for a magazine under the grip even though there is no longer a separate foam compartment, which I think is probably a better design anyway.
If the fingerprint biometrics were more consistently reliable I wouldn't feel I needed a NanoKey, but since my other biometric safes are similarly challenged, that's the reason I got this version, so overall it seems to do what I wanted, just with more difficulty with setup than I would like and at a very premium price point.
Works great so far
It is great having a fast access key to open my safe when I get home from work. The door is open by the time I get into my gear room.
