Battery Installation

Your safe is powered by a 3.7V 18650 rechargeable lithium-ion flat top battery. A minimum 2000 mAh capacity is required, however 2200 mAh or higher can reused to increase operation time.

1. To get started, insert one of your backup keys into the keyhole at the front of the safe. Push key in and rotate the key 90 degrees clockwise to open the safe.

2. Remove the interior padding. Locate the battery compartment door on the inside of the safe directly behind the ‘1’ key on the keypad.

3. Remove the battery cover by pressing down on the tab near the top of the cover.Insert the 18650 rechargeable lithium-ion battery (included in accessory box) into the battery compartment. Note that your Vaultek safe automatically detects the polarity of the battery and can be installed in either direction.

Tip! Before inserting the battery make sure to place the pull string over the battery before closing the door for easy removal.

4. When the battery is inserted you will hear a short welcome tone and the keypad will light up. Once you hear the tone and see the keypad light up, replace the battery cover.

Tip! Leaving your safe plugged in continually will not harm the safe or battery. However, to preserve battery life we suggest that you unplug occasionally to allow the battery to cycle down.

IMPORTANT! Your Vaultek safe will atomically lock when you fully close the lid.

Tip! Register your safe online. This is important in the event you lose your keys.

Charging Safe

1) To recharge the safe, plug the micro-USB into the micro-USB receiving jack located on the right side of the safe and connect to a standard USB port or wall outlet using the AC power adapter. Approximate recharge time is 2.5 hours.

2) The LED next to the receiving jack on the side of the safe will glow RED indicating charging and GREEN indicating charged.

After installing the battery, use the charging kit provided to charge the unit 100%.

Programming Master Code

Let’s program your master code!

Before programming lets cover a few code requirements.

  • Your code can be a minimum of 4 digits, or a as long as 8 digits.
  • Two keys can not be pressed at the same time.
  • Programming a new code will overwrite your previous code.

1) Open the safe. With the safe open, press and hold the “PROGRAM” button until all keys turn RED and let go.

2) Enter your NEW master  code.

3) IMMEDIATELY Press and hold the “PROGRAM” button a second time until all keys turn RED and let go.

4) Enter your NEW master code a second time.

5) IMMEDIATELY Press and hold the “PROGRAM” button together a third time until the safe beeps and all keys turn GREEN and let go. This tone confirms that the code has been reset.

This completes the programming of a new master code.

Troubleshooting! If the keys time out during programming you will need to start over with step 1.

Repeat as needed to change master code.

Fingerprints (Only VS20i)

Your safe can store up to 20 unique fingerprints. The 1st and 2nd fingerprints will be recognized as administrative fingerprints and will be used to authorize additional users. Please refer to “Programming Admin Fingerprints” to get started.

Fingerprint TIPS!

  1. Place the core of the fingerprint flat over the center of the scanner. This allows the scanner to read where most of the fingerprint detail is located.
  2. Rotate your finger slightly between registration scans to store print variations for increased accuracy.

Programming Admin Fingerprints (Only VS20i)

Your safe can store up to 20 unique fingerprints.

The 1st and 2nd fingerprints will be recognized as administrative fingerprints and will be used to authorize additional users 3 to 20.

Let’s enroll the first two admin prints in the safe.

Before programming lets cover a few tips.

Fingerprint TIPS!

  1. Place the core of the fingerprint flat over the center of the scanner. This allows the scanner to read where most of the fingerprint detail is located.
  2. Rotate your finger slightly between registration scans to store print variations for increased accuracy.

Troubleshooting! If you are experiencing a low success rate. Delete the fingerprints on safe and start over.

Programming Admin Print 1 of 2

1. Tap the “PROGRAM” button. The ring around the scanner will turn RED and the ‘1’ key on the keypad will blink RED.

2. When the 1 keys starts blinking place your finger for scan, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

3. This completes enrollment for the first admin print.

Repeat these steps to enroll the second admin print.

Programming Admin Print 2 of 2

1. Tap the “PROGRAM” button. The ring around the scanner will turn RED and the ‘1’ key on the keypad will blink RED.

2. When the 1 keys starts blinking place your finger for scan, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

3. This completes enrollment for the second admin print.

Once both admin prints are enrolled you can program additional prints. Your safe can store up to 20 unique fingerprints. To program addition prints refer to “Program Additional Prints”.

Programming Additional Fingerprints (Only VS20i)

With both admin prints enrolled, you can enroll additional users.

This safe can store up to a total of 20 different fingerprints.

Let’s enroll additional prints in the safe.

Programing Additional Fingerprints

1. Tap the “PROGRAM” button.

2. When the keypad is flashing RED, you need to scan an admin print.

Tip! If the administrative print is left on the scanner too long the safe will begin to program that fingerprint into the safe again and not the NEW fingerprint. If this happens start over with step one.

3. When the ring around the scanner is yellow, you need to scan an admin print.

4. When the ring around the scanner is yellow and the keypad is flashing RED, you need to scan an admin print.

5. Now when the 1 key starts blinking place your new print for scan, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

Additional fingerprint enrolled.

Repeat as needed to enroll up to 20 prints.

Repeat these steps to program additional prints.

Troubleshooting! If you are having difficulty with your print, program the same fingerprint 4 or 5 times. You have 20 slots available for programming and you can also try your thumb as it has more surface area to read.

Low Success Rate (Only VS20i)

Try the following if you are experiencing a low success rate with the fingerprint scanner.

Let’s perform a soft reset of the scanner by deleting the fingerprints on the safe.

1. Press and hold ‘1’ and “PROGRAM” button together for 3 seconds until all keys (1-5) light up RED then enter your master code. This will remove all the fingerprints. You can delete individual fingerprints in the Vaultek Bluetooth 2.0 app.

2. Then remove the battery and reinstall.

Now let’s try reprogramming your fingerprint using the helpful tips below.

Fingerprint TIPS!

  1. Place the core of the fingerprint flat over the center of the scanner. This allows the scanner to read where most of the fingerprint detail is located.
  2. During the 5 scan programming process for each finger, slightly repositioning your finger after each scan will store more information and increase your success rate.
  3. Biometric technology is dependent on our anatomical information, and in some cases different fingers may program better than others. For example, your index finger may not register very well, but your thumb may contain higher detail levels and have a much higher success rate. We suggest to try different fingers including your thumb and see if you have better results.
  4. To increase success rate register the same finger multiple times. Note, that adding more than two fingerprints requires authorization from the two administrative prints.

Program the First Print

Close the door and test to see if the safe will open using your fingerprint.

Repeat these steps to enroll the second admin print.
